Sydney Crane Hire

Cranes are basically mechanical devices that are used to lift, lower, or move heavy materials horizontally. Cranes are generally used on construction sites and also in the manufacturing of heavy equipments. They are generally equipped with sheaves, hoists, and wire ropes. Sure, the cranes that you see now days look like a fairly recent invention. But in reality, they have been used for at least two thousand odd years, if not more. It no longer comes as a surprise to see the various ancient monuments and structures that we are so in awe of. The Romans constructed the medieval churches with the help of cranes. There are also stories that the Egyptians may have used cranes to create the magnificent pyramids.

Different Types of Cranes...

Broadly, the cranes are classified as Telescoping Boom Cranes, Lattice Boom Cranes, and Articulating Boom Cranes. Depending on the type of the work, the types of cranes used on the construction sites would also differ. Industrial Cranes, Truck Mounted Cranes, City Cranes, Rough Terrain Cranes, and All Terrain Cranes would all be examples of telescoping boom cranes. Crawler Mounted Cranes, Ringer Mounted Cranes, Hammerhead Cranes, Truck Mounted Cranes, and Luffing Boom Tower Cranes would come under lattice boom cranes. The articulating boom cranes are generally mounted on trucks that are commercial and can have the telescoping boom hoists and sections.

Types of Cranes in Detail...

Railroad Cranes

These cranes are generally mounted on flat cars or on railroad cars. They are generally used for loading or unloading huge containers on or off trains.

Mobile Cranes

This is the most basic type of crane and consists of a telescopic boom, which is mounted on a mobile platform or a steel truss. The platforms of mobile cranes have caterpillar track, traditional wheels, or wheels that are designed for railroad tracks. These cranes are used in navigating uneven and unpaved surfaces. Mobile cranes can also be used for earthmoving or demolition by just replacing the hook with a bucket or a wrecking ball.

Telescopic Cranes

Telescopic cranes basically have several booms that are fitted one inside the other. The hydraulic mechanism used in these kinds of cranes is used to increase or decrease the length of the crane by extending or retracting the tubes. Telescopic cranes are generally used for several short term construction projects. They are also used in rescue work and lifting boats in and out of the water.

Tower Cranes

Tower cranes are a relatively modern form of balance cranes and are generally fixed to the ground. They have the best combination of lifting capacity and height as well. Tower cranes are used in the construction of tall buildings and they are often fixed on the completed structure to save space and also to provide stability.

The other type of cranes are Truck-mounted Crane, Loader Crane, Rough terrain Crane, Crawler Crane, Gantry Crane, Overhead Crane, Stacker Crane, Floating Crane, and Aerial Crane.
